Well it’s all over…and now I have Don’t Dream it’s Over by Crowded House stuck in my head…OK not really, but now you do. Enjoy.

I’ve just woken up from a 48 hour hibernation session following a breakneck weekend of work and play. In my newfound state of consciousness I’m trying to separate reality from dreams:

Beyonce may or may not have lip-synced the Star Spangled Banner

I may or may not have high-fived the president

Joe Biden may or may not have driven a ‘vette down the parade route

My Inuaguration Day started well before dawn as I navigated the heavy traffic through downtown DC riding past streets shut down by National Gaurd units complete with armored humvees and full BDU’s. K Street was an absolute nightmare of traffic, some were spectators trying to get into the secure zone….some were finishing the night, still outfitted in their fancy dress worn for fancy galas.

The grid within the secure zone was completely empty of vehicles…except the passing military or law enforcement unit. There was something very apocalyptic about the whole scene. But it was also a cyclists paradise…I wish it was always like that. Tweets of the day

Once I got into the Newseum I was there to stay for the entire day. But it was a great place to be (once I found coffee), especially once the parade got started. I broadcasted from the second floor terrace from before sunrise until after the sunset…and I’m pretty sure I high-fived the president.

Here’s a gallery with some of the highlights!

This guy has rebuilt a classic Model T Ambulance from World War I as a way to promote volunteerism The South Shore Drill Team, from Chicago, throws their flags The State of Illinois float The Hawaii State Float...that would be a much easier Diamondhead to hike up P1000259 P1000256 An army of Secret Service vehicles coming before the president Joe Biden's in there...with his shirt on One of the bigger stories around DC was the president swapping out his standard license plates for the DC "Taxation without Representation" plates...it's a nod to statehood. Flatbed trucks full of reporters and photographers drive in front of the presidential limo P1000229 P1000226 P1000221 P1000214 Just some of the tools of the trade...and then a jumble of wires out of frame A spectator takes an iPhone recording of a video feed of President Obama being sworn in. Crowds at the Newseum watching President Obama take the oath of office. Thousands attended the inaugural watch party at the Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue The presidential limo zooms by on the way to the Capitol for inauguration This massive screen in the atrium of the Newseum...it's 40 feet by 22 feet...I need one at home Dawn on the second floor terrace on the Newseum...I got to know this spot very, very well A look down Pennsylvania Avenue as dawn breaks Layered up...but not enough for a cold morning...that would be a cold day...and a really cold night The sun rises behind a brilliantly lit Capitol Building on Inauguration Day The first rays of dawn on a very patriotic day Leaving for the day the atrium of the Newseum looked much the same as it did in the morning...empty New Jersey's finest stand sentinel on the parade route The cadets from Virginia Military Institute march on by...they ended the parade with an impressive flourish Watching the sunset from the same spot I watched the sunrise...the 2nd floor terrace of the Newseum These kids were ridiculous...riding unicycles and juggling all the way down the parade route This is the new mode of transportation from the space station...the capsule, not the flatbed truck So happy the Mars Rover Curiosity could make it back to Earth in time for the parade It's Mohawk Guy...remember him from the Curiosity landing over the summer?? Well now instead of stars he's got JPL etched into that 'hawk. Awesome colors and great movement...and just a bit out of focus This group from Colorado did more than their fair share of dancing These Boy Scouts are making their second consecutive inaugural appearance It is the greatest state ever This poor band got stuck in front of us for close to a half hour as the president and vice president walked the last section in front of the White House Later in the afternoon after the president went by in the parade...cleared out compared with earlier
